“Classic” Cabinet, “Architectural” In-wall/Ceiling, Indoor/Outdoor, and “Rock” Speaker Series

Because it is sound that conveys the greatest emotional impact to us, music and Home Theater’s fullest measure of enjoyment is directly proportional to the quality of the sound system through which it is played. The key components in this system are naturally the speakers. Throughout the years, and still today, they represent the weakest link in any system. They are the vehicles that transport our senses. For the experience to be complete the speakers need to produce the sound intended, and in essence disappear with only the sound, as performed and recorded, remaining. This is an achievement, until now, reached only by some of the very best "high-end" speaker products. At Solus, this revered level of performance exists not only in its “Classic” models but in all its different series’ of products including its “Architectural” audio series of in-wall/ceiling speakers, its “I/O – Indoor/Outdoor” series, and its “Rock” pool and yard speakers. Designed to bridge the gap between home theater, outdoor, and high-end, they are unprecedented in bringing realism to the home theater experience while also significantly raising the musical enjoyment bar both in your home and yard.

Architectural Flexibility

Even the very best sound quality is unimportant if it can not be applied where it is needed and still remain true to the original signal from the amplifier, which powers the speakers. To precisely define these needs for its “Architectural” audio series, Solus solicited input from the people who count most: music lovers, interior designers, architects, installers, builders, contractors, and home owners themselves. This information revealed the many architectural wants and needs that all had to be met for the interface of the environment and Solus speakers to reach their ultimate potential.

Solus did the same for its “Classic” speaker models as well. To meet new décor and household integration standards cabinets needed to be less wide, have a smaller footprint, not be placement dependent, and either blend well or disappear as much as possible into the environment. The focus is great sound enjoyment, not big, cumbersome boxes unable to blend that get into you and your homes way.

Where less is more

Even the largest Solus in-wall speaker housing an 8" woofer and its proprietary 7" ribbon measures only 15 ½" by 12 ½", the smallest only 7” in diameter. The result represents the highest quality musical performance packages in the smallest structural sizes available. Additionally, Solus in-wall loudspeakers and grills are designed to fit flush with the wall, with less extended parts to distract the eye. The result is greater invisibility and near perfect architectural blend into the home environment architecturally, and does so without compromise to the sound integrity. Less installation time and hassle, Solus in-wall frames do not require separate mounting brackets, back-boxes, stud extensions or extra hardware, being designed without requiring these items, which eliminates unnecessary cost and labor. Installation is fast, secure, easy, with outstanding home environment adaptation blended with extraordinary sound performance.

In its “Classic” series, all but one model of its floor-standing, bookshelf, and surround models take up less than ¾’s of a square foot of floor or shelf space. Some are considerably smaller and only one slightly more. Sub models, while bigger, are still designed to fit into the standard Audio/Video Furniture component width of 18” or less. This allows them to be placed inside the furniture cabinet and become mostly or completely hidden. The smaller subs will even fit under end tables if desired.

Where more is better

More structural thickness and weight to both the frame and speaker baffle means added rigidity and reduced resonance in the “Architectural” Series. The result is a reduction of unwanted wall vibrations, the benefit of which is increased sound clarity and detail. Unique to Solus, more clamping strength from additional clamping area is available in the Diamond Reference series products, which can be very easily and quickly attached directly to the wall studs. This increases the structural strength of the frame and baffle further reducing or eliminating unwanted vibrations. The clamped frame is tight and secure, almost a part of the wall itself while allowing for tight, deep, defined bass, and an overall cleaner, more detailed sound.

All Solus “Classic” models are built with ¾” thick medium and high-density fiberwood, and either double or triple cross-braced. All floor-standing and sub models come with special screw-on feet to provide greater acoustic coupling with the floor resulting in cleaner, clearer sound with greater detail and dynamic impact. Even Solus’ “I/O – Indoor/Outdoor” series products are cross-braced, a feature simply not found in any other I/O products.

Since all Solus “Classic” models, including subwoofers, are either sealed or specifically front vented and front firing designs as well, there is no degradation in sound from A/V furniture cabinet or custom built-in placement. Such is not the case with speakers or subs that fire down or might be vented in back, especially subs.

Decorator & Pocketbook friendly

Finishes on all Solus in-wall/ceiling frames and grills readily accept custom paints over their decorator white finish. The steel grill is treated with a moisture resistant primer as well for use in bathrooms, spa areas, outside entry ways, and even covered patios.

Since the far majority of today’s A/V equipment is black, Solus’ “Classic” models are finished at present in both a very beautiful piano painted black lacquer with softened, rounded edges, and a wood grain finish black oak vinyl. Where visible beauty and/or high-gloss component matching is desired the black lacquer finish graces any environment. Even the black oak vinyl finish has a natural, wood shine touch, again blending-in and complimenting almost any equipment or environment while saving on the pocketbook as well. Since many folks today custom build-in their speakers the vinyl finish remains durable and again a savings opportunity with no difference in quality, design, sound or performance.

Easy Upgrades

The two most popular Solus “Architectural” series, the Gold and Silver Reference, both use identical pre-construction rough-in brackets for new home construction. Should home owners sound needs or desires change, upgrading from the Silver Reference series to the Gold Reference is a simple matter of just taking one out and popping the new one in. No customization, wall cutting or repainting is needed. And, if Diamond Reference models are desired, holes only have to be made slightly larger, not smaller, which of course is much easier, less time consuming, and far less costly.

With the Solus “Classic” series there is minimal, if any, affect on space considerations, and sonic matching is assured with any other Solus speakers in the system. Even Solus’ “I/O”, whether resistant Indoor/Outdoor and “Rock” speaker models have the same engineering designs and feature set as all of its other models.

Sound and Home Environment Flexibility

All of the same high-quality components used in Solus’ “Classic” series models are used in both the Diamond Reference and Gold Reference “Architectural” series, and even some in the Silver Reference series as well. These are components that are direct descendents from Solus’ awarding winning and patented loudspeaker designs, and designer. Additionally, in all models, “Classic” or “Architectural” the engineering design parameters and topology of the electrical filters, (crossovers), is identical. Consequently, no better opportunity exists for mixing and matching any of the “Classic” models, if desired, with any of the “Architectural” models, or vice versa. The same timbre, balance, dynamics, and tonal matching will exist for all speakers in the system.

“Architectural” Speaker Series: Limited Lifetime Warranty

All Solus Diamond Reference products are built in our factory in the USA. All plastic part molding is done locally with our own proprietary, multi-cavity molds. Even the “Ribbon” diaphragms are chemically etched locally under our supervision, and completed and fully tested at our Phoenix facility.

The Gold Reference products use the same high-output components of the Diamond Reference series, except for the ribbons, and are assembled in Asia. To insure that such components are a complete and total replica of those done in the U.S. Solus sends several critical parts from the U.S. that could not be properly duplicated there.

The performance/value Silver Reference series, completely designed by Solus here in its U.S. facility, is fully assembled and sourced in Asia to Solus’ exacting specifications, and includes every engineering design and feature set attribute of its Diamond and Gold reference brothers. Whether at our own or in our Asian manufacturer’s facility all models are 100% Solus, and 100% tested for quality workmanship and performance. Such attention to proper design and quality control affords Solus the enviable return rate of less than ¼ of 1% of any of its products for any reason, including freight damage.
